Car camping at its finest. Right off GA 75. Not the most private of locales but there are enclosed pit toilets, a water pump and a good sized creek running through the center (by good size I mean you hear the water flowing). Lantern poles, tent pads, picnic tables and fire pit grills at each site.
Beautiful camp ground. Noise and privacy are less then ideal, but the grounds were otherwise nice. Made a friend here.
Awesome location just north of Helen, easy access immediately off the road. SMALL campground with only like 10 sites. Get there early if you want one. Very small creek, keep that in mind if you plan on fishing, it is TIGHT quarters.
This site is beautiful yet it's not treated well by all who choose to stay. Stayed one night at site #2 and picked up a bag of litter including broken beer bottles out of the creek. Moved to site #9 (double site) and picked up more litter. At one point a truck with four kids pulled up to the rear of the park, chugged some beers and then tossed their empties into the creek (a young man from a neighboring site quickly gathered them in a trash bag). There was a 40oz in a paper sac left in the dump toilet and the facilities could use an upgrade. All that said and done maybe we caught it on a bad weekend. The neighbors we spoke with were friendly and courteous. The campground management stopped by and they to were friendly. The land is currently leased from the US Forest Service and run by Chattahoochee Inc. However, we were told the land will return to the US Forest Service management next year. All said and done, it really is a beautiful space...it just needs to be cleaned up.
As far as I'm concerned first and foremost campgrounds are meant to be quiet and secluded. They should allow you to relax in the beauty of nature. The campsites here look nice at first glance, but don't be fooled. This place is a disaster. I've only been to maybe one or two campgrounds that I disliked, and this one is terrible on a number of levels. It's located right at a switchback on the main road, so Harley's and trucks slow to a crawl and then gun it to go up the hill, blasting their idiotic straight exhaust pipes. It's non-stop racket like being on main Street in Helen on a weekend. What a mess. In the middle of the night it's still noisy. On top of that our campsite was near the chemical toilet, and the stench coming from it was unholy when the breeze blew our way. Our campsite wasn't level, so we slid down the tent floor while sleeping. We left after one night it was so terrible. You would be WAY better off going to Low Gap campground or Upper Chattahoochee if you really want to get off the beaten path. Or just take any forest service road in the area and find a campsite along the side of the dirt roads. The only redeeming quality here was the stream running through the which was pretty, but that's it. Stay away from this dump.
